9e Journée annuelle du réseau ThéCell, Nov 20
The 9th General Annual Meeting of the ThéCell Network will be held in Trois-Rivières, Québec, on Nov. 20!  Mohamed Elkhodiry is awarded the honour of giving the student oral presentation (doctoral level) for his work, "RGD-based biomimetic approach to improve the re-endothelialization of vascular substitutes."  Christina Bitar and Mariève Boulanger will be presenting posters on "Encapsulation and transplantation of pancreatic β-cells as a cell therapy option for type 1 diabetes" and "Développement d'une plateforme de criblage combinatoire peptide-anticorps pour accélérer l'endothélialisation des substituts vasculaires", respectively.

1st Annual Meeting of CQMF/QCAM, Oct 23-24

The 1st Annual Meeting of CQMF/QCAM was held in Sherbrooke on Oct. 23-24.  John Jahchan presented a poster, "Co-encapsulation of gadolinium-based nanoparticles and pancreatic cells in alginate beads for diabetes cellular therapy."  Christina Bitar won the Best Student Poster Award for her presentation, "Development of a microchannel emulsification device that produces alginate microbeads for islet encapsulation."  Congratulations!

McGill Engineering Research Showcase, Sep 25

Mariève Boulanger and Christina Bitar presented posters at the McGill Engineering Research Showcase on Sep. 25!  Mariève's presentation was entitled, "Combinatorial peptide-antibody biofunctionalization approach to improve vascular substitute performance."  Christina presented her work on "Microencapsulation of pancreatic islet cells for type 1 diabetes treatment."  Well done to you both!

28th Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials, Sep 4-8

Mohamed Elkhodiry travelled to Athens, Greece, to give a talk at the 28th Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials!  His presentation was entitled, "A biomimetic surface functionalization for enhanced re-endothelialization of vascular substitutes."  Great work!

XXV International Conference on Bioencapsulation, Jul 3-6

Christina Bitar was awarded a Student Best Contribution award at the XXV International Conference on Bioencapsulation in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, France!  Her oral presentation was entitled, "Encapsulation of pancreatic islet cells for type 1 diabetes treatment."  Congratulations!

Congratulations to Mariève Boulanger, who was awarded 1st place at the QC-ON Biotechnology Meeting for her poster presentation, entitled, "Engineering of vascular substitutes by a combinatorial peptide-antibody biofunctionalization approach"!

Congratulations to Stephanie Fernandez, who won a poster prize at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Canadian Biomaterials Society in Winnipeg!  The title of her poster is, "Engineering a vascularised encapsulation device for the treatment of type 1 diabetes."

The 33rd Annual Meeting of the Canadian Biomaterials Society will be taking place in Winnipeg, MB, from May 24-27!  Raymond Tran will be presenting a talk, while Mariève Boulanger and Stephanie Fernandez will be presenting posters.

85e Congrès de l'Acfas, May 8-12
The 85th edition of the Congrès de l'Acfas is taking place at McGill University from May 8-12, 2017!  On May 8th, Mariève Boulanger presented her talk, "Ingénierie de matériaux vasculaires biomimétiques combinatoires," during the Organismes vivants session.
