Personal Information

Dr. Houria Ounissi-Benkalha obtained her Ph.D. at Paris7 University and Pasteur Institute, Paris, France, in Fundamental  Biochemistry with a focus on Molecular Biology.  Following this, she gained 5 years of postdoctoral experience in world renowned laboratories, which allowed her to strengthen her expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology.

She then joined the Endocrine Genetic team, directed by Dr. C. Polychronakos, at the McGill University Heath Center (MUHC), Montreal, Canada.  Throughout these years, her research focus was the functional study of the genes associated with type 1 diabetes.

Project Description

Starting October 2014, Houria worked as a Research Associate with Prof. C. Hoesli’s team at McGill University, in the Chemical Engineering Department.  Her project was entitled, “Generation of Human Insulin-Producing Cells in vitro from hiPSC,” and focused on the use of human induced pluripotent stem cells as part of a treatment for type 1 diabetes.
